Baby Momma

When I see a sonogram I feel like I'm staring at an ink blot. I don't see the hamburger or the turtle. Sometimes I think I am the last one left in the single girl generation. I don't even like all the babies I meet. Pee and Poo make my mouth get all watery. My friends make it look easy. They know what to do, they'll grab the diaper and whip it out like its no biggie. Gack! and I've totally watched a kid wipe a bogey on an innocent bystander. Parenting is no easy task. However, some people are just destined to have cool babies. Eryn is the perfect example, her kid will probably eat it's Cheerios by lining them up in a neat row, and crunching them one by one. I can't wait for her appropriately tiny baby to come out of there. Even if it throws up on me I know we'll be ok, I might need a moment, but that's what best friends are for. I don't know if I'd say I'm a "baby person" but I love the tots, Chloe and Camilie are some of the funniest twins in the business. Against all odds the baby thing is starting to grow on me.

Lesson #17: Befriend a kid.

Oktoberfest

It's all about the festival, the celebration, the life we lead as we move forward. I live to love German potato salad. Some days should only be about food and beer, pumpkin ice cream, and bratwursts with spicy mustard. So tip your stein to your friend, dig into the sauerkraut, put on your lederhosen, tap your clogs 3 times and say it... there's no place like home, there's no place like home, Es gibt keinen Ort wie zu Hause.

Lesson #16: Make your own holiday.

Peace, Love, and Music

"All we are saying is give peace a chance."
-John Lennon

Tomorrow begins the first day of my musical life. I can see it now, the green rolling hills spilling out over Zilker Park as indie kids, and Rayband Wayfarer's swarm the stages. The warm sun, and cool breeze, we are all here to let it go. It's time to be with the people, picnic in the park, listen to the sounds that will one day become my soundtrack. I am a member of the hippie generation, a flower child looking for peace in the park, to find a place where life is different. In 3 days we'll leave with pictures and memories that will define our city. Today we find bliss.

Lesson #15: Let it all go.

Welcome to the pumpkin patch...

Halloween is my favorite time of year. Cooler weather that smells like the north. Dark nights are seductive, that chill in the air calls my name. Right now it seems like so much is possible. The change in season turned the page. We're no longer Summer children, you can feel it in the rotation of the earth. Roo is excited to be outside, she moves around at a running pace. Something haunting exists in the winter, something good  around the corner. The other side of the pillow, the heavier blankets, the moment everything was different.

Lesson #14: Create change

I'll find you...

Dear Criminals,

I am a nice person. If you steal from me I am not likely to come after you, in fact I will justify your crappy wrong doings by saying something like... "Well, maybe that person needed my cell phone/ credit card/ camera/ ipod more than I do. Maybe they needed it to call home and tell thier family they miss them, or take a bus to Philadelphia where the love of their life was waiting so they could reunite, maybe they wanted to take one last picture, or hear that John Mayer song one more time." Who freaking knows, but like I said, I'm a nice person, so I'd let you have it. However, lately I'm getting a little pissy. For instance I do not appreciate you taking my potted plants. You do not need them, I can't even rationalize why you would need them. In fact I hope they died a little so all you get to look at is an empty pot with stupid $10 Garden Ridge soil. Also, stealing my makeup, NOT COOL. My makeup is from Walgreens, it would have been clear upon first glance that my dust bunny of a makeup bag was not valuable, but it was completely jerk of you to take it considering I had to go buy new makeup, and I was freaking tired. I hope you look like a clown in my shit. And for the record one of my newer OPI's was in there, and I know which one. You stole my bronze glitter nail polish you freak. So now I'm gonna go alllll CSI on your ass. Jokes on you because I work for a promotional products company, and I can buy those little spy pens in bulk. Also I would like you to know that if you come up in my neighborhood and start acting bunk, I'm totally gonna call the cops. I now have officer Gutierez on speed dial, and he'll understand why I went all nutso and confined you in my shed for a week. So congratulations, you better enjoy my stuff, cause I'm one of those psycho chicks who will totally bust out and be all paranoid, I'll peep around at night, don't think I'm above it, cause I'm totally not.

Sincerely,

Sarah

Lesson #13: Don't touch my stuff.

Come hell or high water

"When you drink the water, remember the spring."
-Chinese Proverb

At the top of the Topo Chico mountain water has been flowing from naturally carbonated springs since 1895. The location is now home to the legend of "The Princess and the Mole." This story begins in 1440, where there once was an Aztec Princess. The Pricess better known as the Daughter of Moctezuma felll ill in early 1440, her father Zuma dedicated his life to finding a cure for his daughters illness. Zuma at wits end consulted with local travelers to find a cure for her illness. This is when he was told the secret of the mole. Yes, as in big hairy chin mole. Apparently the mole contained a spring that would restore the princess to health. So off they went in search of a hill that looked like a mole, that spouted hot carbonated water. I swear I didn't make this up, you can totally check the website. So anyway, Princess Topo drinks Topo Chico and gets better. Thus the legend of "The Princess and the Mole." Bet you weren't expecting that story, I can't make this stuff up people, but don't worry, Topo is now sifted through sand and fliters before it's bottled and sent to HEB's across the land. I for one freaking love the stuff, I swear one day I'm gonna do something with those green glass bottles too. So stay tuned for my arts and crafts segment where I attempt to break glass and make it into something else. Until then let's drink, burp, and slip into a fizzy haze.
¡Salud

Lesson #12: Thirst for more.

Happy Anniversary!

3 years ago I sat at a desk in the corner office of where I sit now. I fit perfectly in place. Sometimes where you are is exactly where you are supposed to be. Suddenly there it is, so obvious, yet so illusive. I choose to believe in the wind, it blows us where we belong. Maybe it's crazy, maybe no matter where we go there we are, but I think that might be wrong. Some of my best friends met in 6th grade, you should hear them tell the story of how they came together. It's the people who still laugh at each others jokes, who get jealous, who share a friendship, and share their lives, those are the anniversaries we celebrate. So today I celebrate my anniversary, thank God I have a job I love. No matter what else happens, no matter where I go, here I am, a totally different person than the scared girl who sat here 3 years ago. For worse or for better, we belong, we belong, we belong together.

Lesson #11: Celebrate the moments that matter.
